Hosting Home Wedding Receptions
For a wedding reception with a truly intimate feel, especially if you will only be inviting close friends and family members, then you can choose to host it in your very own home. First, decide whose home you would use, whether the bride's or groom's. You can even host the reception in your new home as a married couple. Once you have picked the spot, take a good look around and figure out how you can fix the place up so that it will be a great venue for a wedding reception.
Select an area of the house that can comfortably hold the number of guests you will have. Usually, this would be the backyard or the dining room. If you will be using the backyard, make sure that you would get a tent to provide cover should it rain during the reception. Landscape the grounds to make them attractive and plant flowers that would match the colour of your wedding theme.
Decorate the interior of the house with more flowers and silk fabrics in your wedding theme colour. Keep the décor simple and elegant since a home is a small place and overdecorating it would make the place look stuffy or gaudy. Make sure that the house is spotlessly clean, and pay special attention to the bathroom. Have fresh towels, toilet paper, and hand soap in great supply for your guests.
Prepare your menu for the reception with the help of your caterer. Decide whether you would be serving mostly finger foods or a full meal. This would, of course, depend on what time you would be having your reception. Make sure that you would have enough tables, chairs, and china for all your guests. Ask your caterer if she would be able to provide these items along with waiters who can help out during the reception. This would usually cost more, but the price would be worth it since getting these additional services would spare you a lot of hassle.
Have a talk with your neighbours and get their permission for your guests to park their cars along the street. Make sure that there would be enough parking space for everyone.
